Problem
We needed an effective way to introduce users to the new app, guiding them through three key actions: selecting a login method, accepting notifications, and setting up a security profile picture. Additionally, users had to complete tasks in other flows before returning to the FTUX screen. This presented a valuable opportunity to integrate new elements into our design language.
Action
I researched other first-time user experiences to identify the key information and minimum requirements for our app. Based on this, I designed three screens. Since this was a new feature on a new app, I led the creation of a new set of illustrative icons. I also implemented a full-color screen using our brand palette, adjusting for accessibility to ensure strong color contrasts.
Results
Initially, the number of users uploading a photo or accepting push notifications was low. After implementing the FTUX, those numbers increased exponentially. The larger graphics, where the phone breaks the circle, became our standard for highlighting new experiences in the app. We also identified additional use cases for FTUX-style experiences and added them to our design library and documentation.
